What is kapom?
Carbomer is a composite polymer acrylic polymer used as a thickener in cosmetics and skin care products. They are mainly added to gel formulations, such as facial moisturizers, sunscreens, shampoos, presaging formulations, cleansers and scrubs, to help control thickness, fluidity and consistency.
Why is Carbomer used in cosmetics and personal care products?
Carbomer helps disperse or suspend insoluble solids in liquids. It can also be used to prevent the separation of emulsions into oily and liquid components. Carbomer is commonly used to control the concentration and fluidity of cosmetics and personal care products.
Carbomer's scientific facts are as follows:
Carbomer is a large molecule made from relatively small compounds called monomers. The monomers were acrylic acid and polyene polyether to prepare carbomer polymer.
Carbomer is chemically very similar, but in molecular weight and viscosity. Capome absorbs and preserves water, and the polymer can expand to many times its original size.
For cosmetics or personal care products, Capom names can use a number, such as 910.934.940.941 and 934P. The molecular weight and special components of the polymer are reflected numerically.
