Polyethylene glycol is nontoxic, nonirritating, and has excellent solubility, compatibility, lubrication, adhesion and thermal stability. Therefore, as lubricants, dispersants, adhesives, excipients and so on, in the pharmaceutical, veterinary and cosmetic industry as ointments, suppository matrix, drop pills, tablets carrier, molding agents and injection solvents, etc., have a very wide range of applications.
Polyethylene glycol and polyethylene glycol fatty acid esters are widely used in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) has many excellent properties, such as water solubility, non-volatility, physiological inertia, mildness, lubricity and moistening, softness and pleasant after use. The viscosity, hygroscopicity and microstructure of the product can be changed by using polyethylene glycol with different molecular weight grades.
Polyethylene glycol vapor pressure is very low, no inhalation hazard at room temperature. No toxic effects were found under production conditions. First aid measures in case of exposure hazards of PEG are as follows:
1. Skin contact: remove contaminated clothing and rinse with running water.
2. Eye contact: lift eyelid and flush with flowing water or normal saline. Go to a doctor.
3. Inhalation: Leave the scene to the place with fresh air. Go to a doctor.
4. Ingestion: Drink enough warm water to induce vomiting. Go to a doctor.
